How will I know when to hire a new employee?  I have been hearing that question a lot recently. My answer is always, how do you not know when?  You know that paperwork is draining you.  You don’t get joy from your work.  You spend too much time doing things that don’t use your strengths.

I am always amazed, that with the answer being so simple, why do business professionals keep asking it? Perhaps it is because hiring a new full-time employee is expensive and time-consuming. But in 2018, you don’t have to hire a full-time employee. There are part-time paperwork people on every corner thanks to the virtual assistant revolution. Being one of those virtual assistants, I say we have made it pretty easy for you to get the help that you need when you need it. Yet, the age-old question of when to hire is still out there.

While I had originally planned to use this post to tell entrepreneurs like you when to hire and when to use temporary services, I thought better of it. What I really want to discuss is what you are losing by not hiring someone — some type of assistant, whether virtual, part-time or full time.

Here are three things not hiring is costing you:

1. You cost too much!

Time is money, and you are much more valuable doing what you do best.  Take a moment and calculate how much your hourly rate is and then research the hourly rate of a virtual assistant, secretary, or part-time assistant.

2. You lose efficiency!

You only have 24 hours a day, and you have to sleep sometime. Most business professionals are not the best at paperwork, anyway.

3. You become energy deficient!

Doing things you do not do your best is draining. Business professionals are people-oriented.  You get your energy from doing, communicating and connecting with people, places, and things.

Here is what you gain by hiring a virtual assistant:

1. You save more than 50% hiring someone else to do your paperwork.

2. A skilled assistant can do it in half the time it takes you to do it, and with higher accuracy. This allows you to gain more hours in your day – more than 12 hours a week that can be used for revenue generating tasks.

3. You get to do what you do best, being the epicenter of your business where you can build win-win relationships.

So when should you hire?  When you finally figure out that you are not saving money by doing it yourself. You are costing yourself a fortune!
